Customer Reviews For Canon Selphy CP780 Blue Compact Photo Printer

Fantastic quality but NO USB CABLE included

Review Date: November 17, 2009
Reviewer: E. Gamble,
The print quality is fantastic. Truly. Just as good as when you order prints through an online printhouse. Very easy to use. Print cost averages around 30 cents. Significantly lower than competitors and you aren't sacrficing quality.

Two criticisms only. This printer doesn't come w/ a USB cable. When I called Canon about it, they said that they are no longer including USB cables to save customers money (ha, ha) because most people are replacing printers nowadays. My frustration is that this is a photo printer and not the main one, thus you actually do need a separate USB cable. Plan on purchasing one separately.

Secondly, when you are printing from your memory card (super easy) you are very limited in editing options. You cannot shift or crop the image. That said, I went to hook it up to the computer, but can't because of the missing cable. Frustrating glitch on such a super quality product.

Overall, we are thrilled w/ the print quality. Definitely worth purchasing.
Nice little printer for the price

I purchased the Selphy CP-780 as a replacement for my CP-720, which was a replacementt for my CP-220, while there wasn't anything wrong with the CP-720 I just wanted the newer model. Right away a few things I noticed.

Its faster (print wise and starting/turning off), buttons and layout of menu's are much nicer and more refined. The paper tray has been redesigned and much easier to open/load.

The picture quality doesn't look any different but I always thought it was pretty impressive anyways. I did notice the sample paper it comes with is no longer has a post card on the back, I requested this paper many moons ago when I had the CP-220. At the time they said there was no demand (ya right). Anyways once I use up the 300+ postcard I had stocked up on, I'll be happy to move onto regular photo paper with a blank back.

I currently only have 2 cons with this new printer and they are very minor if anything.

1. Canon no longer includes a USB (Type B) cable. Come on what does this run like 30 cents?
2. They removed the built in micro usb cable that the CP-720 had (not a huge deal because it still has the ports on the side, and chances are you have a USB (A or B) cable laying around.
Easy to Operate

We bought this printer to use for a photo guest-book at my daughter's wedding. We had it on a table with an AC power source and printed the pictures as they were taken by putting the memory card (from a Canon P&S camera) in the printer. It performed flawlessly outside in mid 80s F temperatures operated by two people who had never seen the printer before. I provided a small sheet of written instructions and they did the rest. The picture color and brightness were correct every time with no computer program processing involved. It made a great day even better with a ton of memories safely preserved.
This Printer is Great For Portability

Review Date: June 21, 2009
Reviewer: Ms_Ladi,
Because I didn't want to dish out the overpriced dollars for the Canon iP100, I looked for something on a smaller priced scale. I did minimal research because I knew I wanted a Canon.

The latest Canon CP780 does the job it's advertised. My printed photos are rich and colorful. One minute print times are okay, and the paper/ink sets (sold separately) fully coincide with the printer. I haven't had any snags or stuck papers. The printer doesn't take up any space at all in my living space.

A couple of complaints. I agree with other reviewers about some of my photos having cut off heads during printing. It's only a few photos I've had a problem with, but it's not great.

The other issue is the 4x6 photo size. I would love to have the option to print on 3x2 to make for an even more intimate photo collection. Currently, when my photos come up, I have to tweak the settings to print them on half a sheet. Now I have about 50 half sheets of unused photos! And no, you cannot use the other half of the photo for a different picture. It would be nice to have various sample sizes of paper (and cassettes) included in the box.

One more thing is it would be nice to have a battery and bluetooth included. With current technology the way it is, the assumed portability of this printer, I should be able to open the box and start printing without going through the hassle of finding a plug, hooking it up, etc. That's why it's considered portable. I would pay an extra $20 for this printer if those items were included. My opinion.

A note on customer service: My printer for some reason didn't come with the sample 5-sheet print pack, so instead of me sending the printer back, Amazon refunded me a small percentage. I love their customer service!
3 Straight hours of printing with no problems

I used this at a wedding recently. We kept printing for 3 straight hours (including changing cartridges) without any problems. People were amazed at how clear and sharp the photos were.

We did notice that the photos came out 1-2 stop darker than displayed on our computer. So we just brightened up the shots by 1-2 stops and problem was solved. Each photo takes about 45-50 seconds to print.

5 things to know when buying a new printer

Author: admin  //  Category: Photo Printers Articles

Despite the 'paperless office', which was to be announced by the common use of computers, there's more pressure now than ever before. And this means that the printers and their performance must be replaced fairly regularly, if you print photos at home or in an enterprise.

Printers today offer a very quality – high resolution photo printer, multifunction printer, scanner, fax, digital memory card readers and much more. ButBefore you decide, there are some basic considerations you should think.

First, the long-term cost of the printer. You can buy a very good color printer for well under $ 100 these days, but the catch is the most economic models have expensive ink cartridges.

If you are thinking of buying a printer for the budget, find out how much ink is very expensive to replace, and if there are generic or refilling cartridges available for it.

Secondly, to discover orthe printer you are considering include a full-size cartridges. Many printers today come with "starter" ink, ink, much less in them as a standard model.

The printer may seem like a good idea if you do not need to buy a new set of printing inks, after 40 or 50 pages.

Next, look at the expense of the black cartridge. Most people print a lot more black and white as they color. Some printers are significantly larger than other models in blackand if not a large number of black print of large models can save a lot of money in the long term.

Fourth, consider what kind of things you can print. If you want to print your digital photos that you have to look at one of the many photo printers on the market.

If you print photos, however, photo printers are generally more expensive to manage than other options. You maybe better off with a laser, which has significantlylower operating costs inkjet.

Finally, consider if you really need all the extra features, such as faxes, scanners, photocopiers, etc. It seems a lot to have all those options, but many people use them rarely, if at all.

And look at the cost of these other characteristics. Do you really want to make photocopies at home, at $ 0.50 to $ 1.00 per page would cost if you can get for 5 to 10 cents a local copy shop?

What can I say? Canon makes great products for photography in my book. I have a Canon camera, printer, etc. I would use no other paper than my Canon. The picture quality turns out great. Also my children have had pictures stuck on bulletin boards, laying/sitting around in the rooms, etc., for 8 years and not one picture has faded not even a little bit. Use this paper and your pictures turn out much better than if you take them some place else for developing.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is interested in scrapbooking, or for those who would just like to print and keep for their photo memories...
great for notecards

Reviewer: Sarah S. Heath, Connecticut, USA
this is the only glossy paper I've seen that is perfect for notecards, since the inside is a clean matte finish, without any photo "logo."

It's not a heavy weight paper, but really is just fine for making glossy photo cards which fold over - and the image quality is great.

The choice of a Portable Photo Printer

Author: admin  //  Category: Photo Printers Articles

In recent years, become very popular portable photo printers. These printers are designed for printing 4×6 Standard – which prints a slightly larger, but are independent with a handle and often a battery can be carried everywhere.

In most cases, the memory slots for memory cards from digital camera and a small screen for an example of photographs. All you need to do is pop the memory card from the cameraprinter, the photos you want to print and you will immediately prints to choose.

These printers are designed for a secondary printer – not instead of your full-size model. You can take them on vacation, sports events and other activities, and print photos directly on the site.

When you buy a portable photo printer, there are several things to consider.

The first thing to be certain of is that the same type of memory card slot of the printer ascamera used. Most printers are common formats, but there are some that only certain types of support. If you can use the digital memory in the printer, will not be very useful.

Another thing to consider if you have an example of a similar screen. It 'much easier to choose which photos you want to print as you see them first. Some of the lowest prices, mobile printers also do a screen anyway, so this is something you need, determine.

The last thing to see how much ink and paper, the cost per print. Some of these portable photo printers use an all-in-a model that is the ink and paper included in it. In other cases you must purchase separately.

The models that the sales of ink and paper separately tend to cost more to fly. In some cases, you might spend $ 0.50 to $ 1.00 for printing, which is pretty expensive when you compare the cost of most of the photoslabs or sites where you can get a printed photo.

There will probably be a bit 'more to pay for the convenience of the pressure of time, but that should cost much more than those not professionally printed.

The All-In-One That Does it All

Review Date: March 30, 2009
Reviewer: Irvin M. Haas, Indianapolis, IN USA
If you're looking for a printer with all the latest technologies, check out the HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. Keep in mind that HP makes two 6500 models--one is wireless and one is not. This is the wireless model. With copy, scan, print and fax functions this all-in-one is a real workhorse.

Fast speed (up to 31 ppm) and extremely easy to use. The setup function is all done via software--you don't even need to touch the 6500's keypad controls. It links directly to your System Preferences control panel making the wireless and fax settings easy. It uses 4 separate color inks, so you can control your print costs when only a single color needs to be replaced.

Main drawback is HP's decision to only include a 2-line text display. For a printer in this price range, HP should have included a 2.5" color LCD screen. If you're looking for a multifunction machine that does it all, seriously consider the HP 6500 Wireless.
Incredible features and performance

Review Date: April 17, 2009
Reviewer: P. Craig, NYC
I have had the OfficeJet 6500 Wireless for a few weeks and am genuinely impressed. The print quality is as good as it's going to get for an inkjet, and is very sharp. Individual ink tanks for each color keeps waste and cost down, and kudos to HP for selling both standard and large capacity ink tanks, allowing heavy users another way to keep costs down. The duplexer is nice and has really cut down on paper consumption. The scanning and faxing abilities are as you would expect for a modern multifunction, and do not disappoint. Where this machine really impresses is the details. It includes a USB cable. You can insert a SD/SDHC/MS card into a card slot and scan any document directly to a PDF file on the memory card, in color or greyscale-without a computer. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, HP has a free application that allows photo printing directly from the iPhone/iPod and is really slick. The unit also has a built-in web server than can be used for status, maintenance, configuration, and even scanning using a web app-even if your computer doesn't have the HP software installed. The wireless setup is incredibly simple-run the wireless wizard from the control panel, pick which network and enter the network password. It connected to my WPA2 network immediately (note the network password is case sensitive) and I never even connected the USB or Ethernet cables. And I am quite impressed with the level of support for Apple computers-even the included software bundle is full-featured and works well, although OS X users will find iPhoto to be superior to the provided software for photo printing. In all I am extremely happy with this machine and especially considering the sub-$200 price.

A Good Printer

I recently bought this printer but I bought it off the HP site because it was cheaper. I truly like the way my printed copies look---very professional and the ink does not smear. I set up the wireless option on both my windows os and mac os laptops. When setting up my macbook, it was tricky but I discovered that once the software was installed on my macbook and I removed the USB printer cable from the macbook and turned the printer off and then on----the wireless system worked?! Setting up wirelessly with the Windows Vista operating system was very easy. This is nice looking printer and I am enjoying it so far.
Great Printer, easy setup, great print quality

I purchased this printer at Costco and I am very pleased with it so far. Wireless setup was simple and worked perfectly for all three of my PCs on my wireless network running XP and Vista. The print quality is excellent as is the speed. Double sided printing is also very nice to have. I could not be more pleased so far.
User-friendly and great features, works on Mac and PC home network!

Review Date: August 21, 2009
Reviewer: K. Hoover, Reno, NV
UPDATE! I was recently photo sharing with a friend, but my memory card reader wouldn't read her SD card, neither would my camera. Her camera read the card just fine but she didn't have the cable to plug directly into my computer. So- we tried putting the SD memory card into this HP printer and voila! The printer read the card AND wirelessly transferred ALL (200+) of her pictures to my computer! It even turned them (portrait, landscape) appropriately, which was a huge plus because we were going through about 1000 pictures (local hot air balloon festival) total. I was just amazed- I thought surely I'd have to sit by the printer and select each individual picture to send to my computer but it sent them all with no problem! Just get this printer, it's amazing.

I purchased the OJ6500 two days ago. Installation was a breeze on my MacBook with Leopard, 10.5.7. The "quick" installation guide takes you through getting the printer set up, i.e. plugged in, inserting ink cartridges.

There is a separate manual for setting up the wireless and fax. The wireless connection is set up through your computer, as long as you know your network name and WEP password there shouldn't be a problem. The wireless manual also has several pages of trouble-shooting ideas in case the wireless connection isn't working on the printer, or the computer can't find the printer on the network, etc.

I have used the duplex printing successfully, which was one of the main reasons I bought this particular printer, wireless being the other. The duplex printing is a bit slow, so I probably won't be printing out my thesis on it, but great for saving paper with smaller documents and I certainly didn't expect it to be lightning-fast duplex printing.

There is also a separate manual for setting up the fax, but as several other reviewers have commented, the fax capabilities don't work with digital phone, so I haven't even tried to set this up as the fax ability wasn't a priority for me.

I have already used both the scanner and copier as well. I scanned in a number of old pictures which turned out great. The printer has a ton of scanning options which makes scanning pictures in particular a snap- you can choose to scan into a .jpeg format directly into the HP Photosmart program, or for fellow mac users, scan as a .jpeg directly into iPhoto. You can also scan in as a .pdf format, which is extremely handy as well.

The only weird glitch I've had with all of the printing, scanning, and copying I've done so far is that sometimes the printer can't find my computer. You can scan two ways- select directly from the printer, which asks you to select the computer to scan to and the format to scan (.jpeg, .pdf) or you can control it from your computer. When installed, the HP Device Manager application allows you to control the scanning/faxing from your computer, which gives you the same options of format, etc. So part way through my scanning, I was using the buttons on the printer itself and it stopped "seeing" my computer on the network, so I couldn't select any computer to send the scan to. But when I opened the HP device manager, it scanned perfectly into my computer. The printer now is recognizing my computer again, so it's kind of sporadic I suppose.

One final note, my boyfriend has a desktop with Windows XP and wireless capabilities, and he also installed the software and is printing just fine via wireless. So overall I'm extremely happy with this printer, I think it was a great purchase and hope it will get me through my last year of grad school with printing forms and papers, etc. I purchased the printer from Sam's Club and also priced the replacement ink package- the printer has an optional "XL" black cartridge which is supposed to print up to ~1200 pages, so the package that included the XL black, and the three separate colors was $70, just so you have an idea of how much replacement inks will cost. The smaller color cartridges are said to print about 700 pages I believe. I'm very happy with the purchase- happy shopping!
